The author provides a solid foundation and goes into a detailed step by step method to create your own drawings. This is a great resource for beginners and would make a nice gift for aspiring young artists.
I purchased this book based on the author's actual artwork - I mean the artwork that he displays for show or sale. It's absolutely beautiful. There are sketches to help with the lessons, but none of his actual artwork is included in this book. So even though his actual artwork is not included inside this book, I love the book. I think the book is helpful, and I would love it if he would create a book of his beautiful artwork as well. Thank you and best wishes.
This book on sketching, while it touches lightly on important subjects like perspective and values (shading), I don't think it would help greatly somebody new to sketching. The coverage of important points of sketching is perfunctory. A more experienced sketcher won't find much here. However, the author is enthusiastic and does want to help the reader learn. The final chapter that walks you through various steps of a drawing is the best part of the book.
Good book. All the foundational material is here and presented in a calm friendly way. If you set aside the time and diligently work through the book your skills will increase. The book is interesting so you will not be bored. The material covers pen and paper drawing, not computer art. I hope that this excellent art teacher will expand into computer art soon. I am sure he would have a lot to offer.AD2
The author has put it in very simple words, he has made it very easy to understand even to the beginners. His deep knowledge of sketching is seen throughout the book. I can’t wait to use these techniques and start sketching. I would definitely recommend this book to whoever is looking to learn sketching.Its a great book. Worth $$ paid.
I have been sketching for a long time and became discouraged. These are great reminders and the encouragement is welcome.
Although I thought the sketches of the photos looked better than the photos themselves in every case, I found the book useful.
I find his exercises extremely helpful, very good artist and teacher. I will buy more of his books.
