My daughter really loves this collection of books. She loves all the stories. I like most of the stories, except the "new baby" one, which was okay but didn't really have any examples that helped our daughter deal with a new baby. We cannot read the "afraid of the dark" story at bedtime because it seems to make her think more about being a afraid of the dark. We read it during the day use it as a springboard for discussion about the dark. Also, in this collection of stories, Papa is not protrayed as an oaf (though he does deny being sick in the "go to the doctor" story.) Overall, this is an excellent purchase, particularly for the price.
I read this series as a kid, and am more than thrilled to have found it for my own children. It is now a must read for bedtime. My sons favorite is the berenstain bears and the messy room-its especially applicable for him!While I am thrilled that the stories always have some form lesson attached, I now see a little of the "male bashing" others have referred to. I never picked up on it as a kid, but as an adult, the somewhat simplistic and ignorant goofiness of papa bear strikes a chord with me. It doesn't detract too much from how I perceive the series as a whole, but it does sour the memories a bit!However, having grown up with this, I just want to stress that I had no conception of the weakness of papa bear. Though I will allow that other children may catch on. So far, my sons haven't, and that's just fine. After all, mistakes are a part of being human, and we can't pretend that either of the parents from this story (though they are bears and not people), are meant to be unrealistically perfect.

I loved these books when I was a kid, so I bought this for my three year old son. Five great stories for a great price! We’ve read from it every night since we got it. He loves it, and the stories usually have a nice lesson.
Growing up I never actually read any of the Berenstain Bear books. I always liked to look at the covers, but I was more or less into Clifford. Fast forward 26 years and I'm trying to give my 3 year old daughter a good variety of books to encourage a love of reading. She likes this Berenstain Bears book, I can't say it's one of my favorites to read however. The language used in the book is awkward at times, perhaps intentionally. I was kind of surprised in the first story when Sister Bear is born, she punches her Brother Bear in the face. I find no problem with my daughter reading this, because I see it for what it is, but I know at least one couple who would object to this sort of thing from being in books their child reads. The morals in the Berenstain Bear books are great, the pictures are great, and the stories themselves are entertaining for children. As long as my daughter keeps asking for the book I'll gladly read it, but she definitely prefers the less wordy Little Critter books at her age.
All the childhood memories started flooding back when I started reading this book to my newborn a couple of months ago. The stories of Mama, Papa, Brother, and Sister bear and their life lessons. This book is a MUST have. Actually just do your inner child and your children a favor and get the entire collection!The stories are just short enough, but long to where if you started bed time a little earlier, you could sneak in more cuddle time with your growing children.
I love the Berenstain Bears books; my children loved them and now my grandchildren love them too. The books try to teach a life lesson in a fun way.
Great price for this book! Just as good as buying the books separate
