About the Author
Karen Jewell writes a weekly column for the Norwalk Hour newspaper titled "Water Views," which is currently in its tenth year of publication. The theme centers on anything and everything that has to do with life along the waterfront. Her past work experience includes positions as dock master, yacht charter broker, yacht sales broker, sail loft staff and owner of a busy yacht maintenance service. Growing up along the coastline of Connecticut and having the opportunity to enjoy summer vacations along the shoreline of Maine her entire life, Jewell developed a passion for the water, boating and just about everything to do with life along the water at a very young age. Her affection for the sea has only grown stronger over the years, and learning about the unique history of the waterfront has been one of her favorite pastimes. This is Jewell's second book published with The History Press, having released A History of the Rowayton Waterfront: Roton Point, Bell Island and the Norwalk Shoreline in August 2010.

As a kid in Stamford I spent my summers (1950's-1960's) at the Stamford Yacht Club, and learned to sail on the local waters, so this book was a bit of nostalgia. I had heard at the time that the Luders shipyard built PT boats for WWII, but the details presented here gave a lot more interesting background to this story. Not sure this book will appeal to folks who did not live in Stamford, or those who had no interactions in the area, but it will appeal to those for whom it may resonate.
I was born and raised in Stamford and the waterfront is in my soul. This book is full of information about my own city that I never knew!! Very interesting!! I learned so much about how Stamford developed and grew.
He loves it! Perfect gift.
